Wednesday 9th April - Cochin

After a much needed night's sleep in a decent bed, we were out of the hotel before breakfast to go and see the fishermen bringing in their catch and setting up by the Chinese fishing nets. Great to see it all in action and the banter is great. Everyone seems so much friendlier down here compared to the north of the country, and you do not get pestered half as much. Breakfast was great - not a buffet in sight! Afterwards we grabbed a tuk tuk to the Jewish Synagogue, in Jew Town - I kid you not. We did not stay for too long, as photos were not allowed and it was hot and humid as hell. On the way back we did a bit of shopping and headed back to the hotel when the kids started complaining too much. A great afternoon was had in the pool & sandwiches in the shade - brilliant, and just what we needed. Carrie went for a sleep soon after lunch while Sam stayed in the pool. Sure enough, as she woke up, he was starting to fade, and so they swapped places. I took Carrie out at about 4pm to go for a spot of tea. We went to a place called "The Tea Pot", not far from our hotel. It was recommended in the Lonely Planet guide book as a great place to go for afternoon tea, and the Death by Chocolate was not to be missed. Lets just say that Dad & daughter had a fantastic hour to ourselves and the cake lived up to expectations....
Sam was rousing on our return and we all got ready for the evening. Dinner was booked at the Brunton Boatyard (the top hotel in Cochin) - nice, but not as good as our hotel. Again, another thunderstorm hit during dinner, but it had all finished by the time we had finished for the walk home.
